Speaker: David Weiss

David Weiss is Vice President of Sales and Engineering for Eck Industries, Inc. He is responsible for the development and application of high performance alloy and casting concepts. Weiss participated in the development of the lost foam casting process for magnesium alloys for which he shared the Howard Taylor award from the American Foundry Society (AFS). Other important contributions include development of low pressure casting techniques for sand molds and a patented hybrid high-pressure shell casting process.

He is the current Research Chairman of the Magnesium Division and is a past chairman of the AFS Aluminum, Magnesium and Research Board Divisions. Weiss currently serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Metalcasting and is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Foundry Society.

He has received numerous awards including the Hall/Heroult Scientific Merit Award, the Howard Taylor (AFS) award three times, the William Frishmuth award (AFS), the Ray H. Witt Award (2009) and the Merton L. Flemings Award (2012) from the Metal Processing Institute of Worcester Polytechnic Institute and presented the Hoyt Memorial Lecture during the 2009 AFS Casting Congress. In 2012, he was the recipient of the AFS Award of Scientific Merit for "technical innovations in light metal casting".
