Abstract: Lost Foam Casting Process, What does it bring to the party?  Which party? DFMA, Lean, Six Sigma, Roll Tide Football, they are all FUN! This presentation will cover the various Unique Design Considerations for fully utilizing ones Investment in Designing for Casting in the Lost Foam Process. The presentation will also provide Production Examples and snap shots of upcoming designs that will attest to the power of Designing with Lost Foam relative to other casting processes.


 

Speaker: Tom received his B.S. degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Alabama and his M.S. degree in Business Administration, UAB. He is Six Sigma Green Belt as well as Lean Enterprise principles certified. Tom spent half of his career in Foundry Operations Management having leadership roles in most areas: from R&D through Technical Sales support. The other half of his career he worked in Technical Product & Services Sales, including Consumable Materials, Iron Castings, Hard Plate Steel, Carbon Sheet Steel, some Heat Treating services. Tom began working with the Lost Foam casting process in 1986, served Grede-Columbiana as a supplier of product and services for a total of over 15 years, spending a lot of time in the process.  He rejoined the Grede team in 2010, with focus on Lost Foam Business Development.

Tom has been a devoted member of the AFS for over 30 years. He is a Past Chairman of the Birmingham chapter, currently Chairman for the SE Regional Conference.
