An in-depth discussion of various methods for producing steel tubing:

• How tube manufacturing processes affect the mechanical properties and material microstructures of the tube.

• How manufacturing process steps can affect the subsequent applications of the tubes.

• Advantages of using steel tubing versus other materials for improved efficiency.



Mr. Rayner is Plymouth Tube Company’s technical specialist at their Winamac Hot Mill and Cold Draw facilities. Responsible for customer interface on technical issues and internal metallurgical issues across the entire product line.


Mr. Rayner holds a BS with Dual Major Metallurgy/Materials Science and Industrial Supervision from Purdue University, Fort Wayne, IN; and an MBA from St. Francis College, Fort Wayne, IN. His professional experience includes 30 years in Tubing Manufacturing and Heat Treating Industries. Served as a Manager of Technical Services, Chief Metallurgist, Quality Assurance Manager, Product Development Engineer, Plant Superintendent and Private Consultant for multiple steel forming companies. Developed new products and processes for Tubing Manufacturers customized to meet specific customer needs in the automotive, oil/gas, power generation, aerospace, boiler and heavy equipment manufacturing industries.
